Smile, you’re on fire! Dramatic Trash The Dress photo shoot
www.dailymail.co.uk
Trash The Dress photo shoots, where brides purposely ruin their wedding gowns in the name of art, is a decade-long trend that can involve anything from colorful paint bombs, to buckets of mud and in some case, balls of fire. Now, one woman has filmed her shoot, capturing the 'crazy' moment her pristine white dress is lit on fire before she bolts towards the ocean in a hurried attempt to put the flames out. Natasha Samuel, who married Daniel Yakcobi in May, was standing on a beach in Israel earlier this month when she had a friend douse her wedding gown in flammable liquid, before lighting a match. And it seems that grooms are happy to participate in the trend. 'Brides and grooms want awesome imagery from their wedding, period,' writes the Wedding Journalist Association. 'Couples everywhere are donning their wedding finery and not only descending into caves, but plunging into breakers, walking through abandoned amusement parks, wandering through cornfields, wading into forest str [...]

Long-Bin Chen: Recycled book sculptures
www.designboom.com
A series of culturally iconographic paper sculptures by Long-Bin Chen are intricately crafted from existing books, newspapers, and magazines. New York based artist Long-Bin Chen is known for transforming books, newspapers, and magazines into sculptures. Using locally printed materials (where he is an artist in residence) as his medium, he carefully carves figures from blocks of soft stacked paper--from warriors, to buddhas, to composers. at first glance, the highly-realistic three-dimensional works appear to be made from stone, but upon closer inspection, the viewer realizes the humble material which he has employed. Chen's commentary on social change seeks to connect ideas from the east, where he was born, with those of the west, where he resides. his creative practice at current sees him realizing large-scale buddha heads shaped from piles of telephone books, japanese warrior figures, and influential people from other cultures. An installation of Chen's art is on view at the Halsey I [...]
